St Benedict’s Tops League Table for A Level
First in Suffolk, Third in England!
St Benedict’s position as an Outstanding school was confirmed by the League tables published by the Department for Education on January 24th. Looking at all schools in Suffolk, state and independent, St Benedict’s is again the top school with our score of 1091 points per candidate.
Turning then from the data for Suffolk to the whole of England, St Benedict’s appears in the list of best A/AS level results 2012. What is not immediately obvious is that nearly all the schools above us on that list are Independent or Selective (i.e. Grammar) schools. There are just two comprehensive schools higher than St Benedict’s. This means that we are the third best comprehensive school in England for A levels!
Examination results and League Tables do not tell the whole story of a school. Nevertheless, we should take pride in the fact that this small, rural Catholic comprehensive school has once again achieved results far beyond expectations. Everyone knows that, this year, our GCSE results, affected by the shortcomings of the new examinations for English, slipped us well down the rankings in Suffolk and in England. It is very pleasing that the A Level results once more reflect the tremendous achievements of our students here at St Benedict’s.
