Careers Talks
Careers Talks are usually scheduled during lunchtime (12.45-1.25pm) and are open to all students.
Learning about careers from directly shared experience is one of the most impactful and inspiring ways for our students to discover the huge variety of career paths that are open to them. We aim to offer two different Careers Talks per half-term. Each talk includes specific and associated career roles, entry routes and progression, alongside information on salaries and future opportunities (Labour Market Information). Q&A time also allows students to dig deeper into individual and specific areas of interest!
Our programme of Careers Talks ensures that our students are introduced to a wide range of career paths, and insights delivered from an array of guest speakers. The latter include experts who are new to our school as well as our much esteemed alumni, parents and carers, and current staff members. During this academic year, for example, our students have been enlightened about careers in: IT and Project Management, Architecture, Creative industries, Medicine (Human and Veterinary), Engineering and Product Design and Teaching... and are about to find out about Emergency Management (for large-scale natural disasters!).
Careers Fairs
Our annual Careers Fair is a very busy, interactive and fun way for students to engage in person with employers, employees and apprentices. We are extremely grateful to each of the businesses and companies, colleges and universities, apprenticeship and training providers, and charities who give up their time each year to inform and inspire our students (and staff!). The participants in our most recent Careers Fair (November 2024) included:
Ashtons Legal, ASK Apprenticeships, The British Army, Cambridge Regional College, Care Development East, Central College of Animal Studies (CCOAS), Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), City College Norwich (CCN), Eastern Education Group, Fabric First Architects, Hachette Children’s Group, Ipswich Town Football Academy, Knights Lowe, Marshall Aerospace, MPCT Military Academies, NHS, Norwich University of the Arts, Oxford Brookes University, Pick Everard, Royal Navy and Marines, RSPCA, Suffolk Constabulary, The Jockey Club Catering, University of East Anglia (UEA), University of Hertfordshire, and West Suffolk College (WSC) including WSC Apprenticeships
Feedback on this event from two new employers said it all: “It was a great day - really well organised and terrific engagement”, and “They were a brilliant group of students engaged in their futures and a pathway of success. This is a wonderful mindset to see at such a young age… the atmosphere was lovely, and it was a pleasure to be part of this community”.
We aim to introduce new participants each year to ensure our students are always expanding their horizons!
