Careers Talks
We offer a varied and interesting programme of Careers Talks each term and welcome students across all year groups to attend. Careers Talks are hosted by our alumni, employers, employees and apprentices, parents and carers and our own St. Benedict's staff members. To ensure equal access for all students, our Careers Talks take place on site during lunchtime (12.45-1.25pm) and students are permitted to eat their lunch in situ.
Learning about careers from directly shared experience is one of the most impactful and inspiring ways for our students to discover the huge variety of career paths that are open to them. We aim to offer two different Careers Talks per half-term. Each talk includes specific and associated career roles, entry routes and progression, alongside information on salaries and future opportunities (Labour Market Information). Q&A time also allows students to dig deeper into individual and specific areas of interest!
Our programme of Careers Talks ensures that our students are introduced to a wide range of career paths from an array of guest speakers. The latter include experts who are new to our school as well as our much esteemed alumni, parents and carers, and current staff members. During this academic year (2025-26) our students have been enlightened about careers in: International Medical Laboratory Science, Ecology, Project Management at Sizewell C, High-end Events Management, the RAF, our Local Authority and the Catholic Clergy.

Annual Careers Fair
Our annual Careers Fair is held during the Autumn term, an especially important time for those students planning their next steps. Students in Years 9-13 (inclusive) and staff attend the Fair on a scheduled carousel, ensuring they have plenty of time to interact with participants. We are extremely grateful to each of the businesses and organisations, colleges, apprenticeship and training providers, and charities who give up their time each year to inform and inspire us.
Students and staff are prepared for the Fair beforehand with a bespoke Tutor time presentation. The latter lists all participants in the Fair that year and includes a comprehensive list of questions that students can ask them. The aim is to provide our students with useful tools and techniques for approaching and engaging with new people, and to build their confidence and abilities in exploring their future career options.
Each year, our Careers Fair proves to be a busy, informative and fun way for students to experience in person interactions with employers, employees and apprentices. Feedback on this event from previous employers says it all: “It was a great day - really well organised and terrific engagement”, and “They were a brilliant group of students engaged in their futures and a pathway of success. This is a wonderful mindset to see at such a young age… the atmosphere was lovely, and it was a pleasure to be part of this community”.
We invite new participants each year to ensure our students are always expanding their horizons!
