08/02/2021 SNOW DAY: School Closed, please click for more information

Dear parents/ carers and students

Given the snow across our region we have closed the school site today for key workers and specified students.

Under normal circumstances today would be a snow day, with school closed and students free to enjoy the  snow. Whilst the technology of remote learning obviously means that we need not make any changes to our planned provision, I think this is an opportunity to focus on the wellbeing of students and what they are really missing out on. Snow days are so infrequent and whilst we have lost learning, young people are under a huge amount of pressure studying remotely and we feel that to set a day of lessons would  deprive them of an opportunity to enjoy the infrequent simple pleasures a snowy day provides. We would therefore like to set a series of challenges for students and we hope that parents and students will see this gesture as it is intended- a chance to take stock and focus on wellbeing.

So our optional but encouraged tasks for students today are:

  • Build a snowman (send or tweet a picture to us)
  • Enjoy a good-natured socially distant snowball fight
  • Take a photograph or draw a winter scene
  • Make an ice-decoration (instructions to follow)
  • Do something kind for a family member
  • Send a message to a friend or relative that they have not spoken to recently
  • Read a favourite book
  • Watch a favourite film
  • List all of the things they are proud of that they have accomplished in the last year
  • Tidy up your home learning space
  • If absolutely necessary for their well-being, catch up with revision or missed online or remote lessons

Yours in Christ, Imogen Senior
